I haven’t bought anything for a bit. Well a bag but it was a bargain so it doesn’t count. I try not to shop but the pressure builds. Men never used to have bags. But now we have mobiles, MP3 players (I refuse to advertise iPods on account o
f the fact they are so good they destroy my anti-consumerism rife) notebooks and fashion pens. As jeans got tighter there has to be somewhere to put everything. My bag is very cool. The inside is lime green. Only I know that but it helps. Until I’m persuaded that I need a orange lining to determine that I’m cool.
This is the trouble isn’t it? There are just some goods that fill you will pleasure. A future society that restricts access to this – how good is it going to be? The answer for some is to live in the country and not consume any media, like the farmers who live in my village. They wouldn’t know what to do with your bag.
They are unaware of new trends and couldn’t care less. They don’t rub up against them. They may have tractor envy, but I haven’t asked them about it… I find it easy when I’m here to want nothing – I am not stimulated by seductive people to want anything because the people are just genuine and not seductive.
But I don’t want my life resumed to one village either.
